Manufacturing Retainers, Washers and Spacers
Retainers, washers and spacers are deceptively demanding components: flatness, parallelism and thickness consistency determine whether the assembly they sit within preloads correctly. TEK Precision produces these on an Okamoto surface grinder with 30 by 12 inch capacity, with parallelism verified against lab-grade surface plates — three Ottavino plates at 3 by 6 feet and two Starrett pink lab-grade plates at 2.5 by 3 feet.
Thickness is verified using indicator micrometers reading to 0.0001, blade micrometers, and Mitutoyo 12-inch height masters accurate to 0.00002 inches. Hardness inspection is performed in-house on Wilson hardness testers per ASTM E-10, E-18, E-92 and E-384, with conductivity inspection available where the specification requires it.
Where the drawing calls for thermal stress relief, TEK performs this in-house per SS8407 and SS8669. Ultrasonic cleaning and degreasing are available as final operations prior to inspection and packaging.
