Shafts and spindles are frequently classified as flight safety-critical, which places them under the strictest process controls TEK Precision operates. Machining combines CNC turning with cylindrical grinding on Tschudin equipment to 0.000002 inch resolution.
Ground surfaces carry a specific risk: grinding can induce localised thermal damage invisible to the eye that compromises fatigue life. TEK addresses this in-house through the temper etch process for detecting grind burn damage per Sikorsky specification SS8705, performed by certified nital etch examiners. Hardness is verified on Wilson hardness testers with Superficial capability, inspected per ASTM E-10, E-18, E-92 and E-384. Thermal stress relief is available in-house per SS8407.
Dimensional verification uses the Brown and Sharpe CMM alongside Mitutoyo 12-inch height masters accurate to 0.00002 inches, with all measuring and test equipment on a documented calibration schedule traceable to NIST.
